Do I need to have any canoe experience before going on one of your canoe adventures?
It is recommended (but not required) you and your dog take the class "Teach Your Dog to Canoe Basics" before going on a canoe adventure. This way you can see ahead of time how your dog is going to act in a canoe and we can decide if your dog needs more canoe instruction and practice on a one-on-one basis with an instructor before putting your pooch into a canoe with another dog and other people. Most dogs do very well in canoes and some just take to it naturally but others need a little bit more work. Think of it as being similar to taking your dog for a ride in a vehicle. With practice, your pooch will view a canoe as a vehicle and will get excited when seeing a canoe and you will have a hard time getting them out of the canoe!
What should I take with me on a canoe adventure?
All of your gear and food will be supplied on your trip. You will be responsible for your water. We suggest bringing one bottle of water for a half day trip and two bottles for a full day trip. You will also be responsible for your own personal care items, such as: rain gear, bug spray, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, camera. Your shoes will get wet getting in and out of the canoe so wear appropriate footwear. We will supply an emergency rain poncho if you do not have appropriate rainwear and a small waterproof bag.
What is your cancellation policy?
All adventures will happen rain or shine. The only time adventures will be cancelled will be due to adverse weather that includes lightening. To confirm your space on a wilderness adventure, we request a non-refundable deposit of 20%. Your balance is due before you depart on your adventure or can be paid anytime prior to your adventure. Your deposit is completely non-refundable; however, it is transferable to another trip in 2012 or 2013 if the notice of cancellation has been received by our office 14 days prior to your trip departure date. Exception: Cani-cross/Running events do not require a deposit, but do require you to contact our office with the number of attendees.
Why do you need to know my weight and the weight of my dog?
Knowing your weight and height, we will be able to better adjust the load of the canoes to even them out for balance. We also need your weight to fit you properly for a life jacket for yourself and your dog. We also need this information to fit backpacks for yourself and your dog.
Can you do specialized trips catering to just myself and my dog?
Yes, we are very flexible at Howling Wolf Adventures and can accommodate most requests of this nature. There will be an additional charge. Please call or email for availability and scheduling. This is a great option for dogs that do not play well with others, or need specific assistance and more one-on-one training for yourself and your pooch, or if you just want to experience the peaceful nature of a semi-solo but guided jaunt with your pooch.
Do you have a Facebook page?
Yes, we have a Facebook page and it is: www.facebook.com/HowlingWolfAdventures now go 'like' us!
Do you have to have a dog to take part in an adventure?
No, you do not need to have a dog to take part in an adventure. You just need a love of adventure and the outdoors! We can show you the rest. Also, if you want to pretend to have a dog for the day, I'm sure we can find you one that you can give back at the end of the day, with no ongoing responsibilities, we promise! Think of it like a doggie rental program.
